The Camp Zamostea in 1995 changed my point of view about life! It was my first holiday after 10 years and changed myself, as a 17-year-old, into a completely different person. I had the chance to see orphans and people with handicaps, HIV, AIDS. Before I did not have an idea about them. The most important thing is, not only I was changed, but another 80 to100 Romanian teenagers who have been in Zamostea Camp as volunteers. They realised that they could do something to help and offer a great week to all those people. The children realised that there are people who care about them, and their problems, and that is why every year they love to come back to Zamostea Camp. Thanks to the British sponsors, and the people from ROMANIAN CHALLENGE CAMP, who send money to our Romanian charity CHALLENGE CAMP ROMANIA to organise camps for orphans from five Orphanages in Northern Romania. The children have the opportunity to talk to British people, and to make friends. We are models for the children, and that is why we have to set a good example. Me personally, I would like the camp to run forever for the benefit of these children. In the name of about 100 leaders, around 1000 children and in my name I would like to say THANK YOU to all who support our charity in organising those holidays for the children, and t, help poor families from our area.
Note: During the reign of Ceausescu all TV and newspapers were censored and the Romanians were told it was a disgrace to have handicapped children so they were put in hospital orphanages with high walls. Therefore the population were not aware of what was behind these walls or what went on.
