1999 July
The minibus broke down in Romania and after being repaired twice had finally to be left in Romania. The orphanages are short of money and food so paid all the travelling expenses for the children.
The first attempt to letting the Romanian Team organises and run the boy’s home week turned out a huge success. This is what we are aiming for. Our charity over there managed to get a good number of volunteer leaders. In fact more than was needed but as they say next year they will be more selective. Due to the lack of transport for the hospital Children (none available in the mornings) we had only 651 total of children this year.
We had as guests and observers this year Caroline Mia (reporter from Radio Lancashire) and Julie Seddon (from Blackpool Gazette) who visited the orphanages to see for themselves the conditions, also to talk to the team and the children about the improvements since we first went.
Conditions were such that when we first went in 1991 the orphanage children where ignored by the teachers at school and proper medical care was not available to them. Therefore this year we are very please to learn that two of the boy’s from the Boys Home have the chance to go to university. They need approx. £350 to pay for the fees and accommodation. We are also delighted because we have just learned that an unknown Romanian from Suceava has donated the money required. What an achievement!!!
Unfortunately the weather was not too good for the last two weeks, but it did not deter the children from enjoying themselves
Once again a successful camp.
