1998 June
Even with the four small wells (they are only 15” wide) for all the water we use, was not enough. It was found necessary to have a full-size well dug (approx. 60” wide). Showers have now been put in, a lean-too added to the toilet block.
It has now been found that owing to the shallow water table we still require more water when there is a large number on camp.
Water engineers from Southern Trent Water assessed the problem and found the main reason for the shortage is water management, and the company allowed their engineers to set up a system, which will provide for better storage and management of the wells.
(August 98) This has been a complete success.
Because of the need of more transport space our wagon will have to go out twice, so it went out the beginning of June and again for the camp in July.
1998 July
This year the camp took the form as in previous years, a week with hospital children then two weeks with orphanage children, with 20 persons in the team. This year we had two more orphanages involved also representatives visited the camp from another Hospital who wish to be involved next year.
The lower numbers in the team this year are because owing to not having enough transport and shortage of food we are able to take out we have to buy more in Romania. Last year we over spent so this year we had to put the fees up 25%. Making it difficult for the team to raise (£600).
Next year with an alteration to the organisation in Romania and the support of the Romanians it is hoped to bring this down to a more reasonable figure.
1998 December
It was decided to extend the challenge further and extend the period of the camps to four weeks having the boys home first, then the Hospital children, next a new project having children from families were the parents are out of work, and finally the girls from the girls home.
To help support this venture it was decided to start a sponsorship scheme, details follow.
