Fact Sheet 1995

1995 May

At this stage it was decided we form a separate charity under. The name of “Romanian Challenge Camp” and are duly registered. (Why Romanian Challenge Camp – it was held in Romania, it was certainly a Challenge and of course it is a Camp)

At the same time it is decided to form a registered Romanian charity “Challenge Camp Romania” so as to ensure goods sent out went where the need was and we could be sure of their destination.

(Challenge Camp Romania is our Sister Charity – Based in Romania)

This took a year to form, and now we have a sister charity in Romania with myself as Founder Director and President Tibby Prodan and Alex Handrache as Vice President and Camp Warden, and a committee of Romanians involved with children.

1995 July

Our President resigns owing to pressure of work and we have a new President, Janneta Nita and a Secretary, Gabbi Cinpoes who is also our translator.

For this year’s camp we run a week of Scout Leader training because they are desperate to Know about Scouting, as well as our usual camp for the children, during which we also include a day for The local children, and once again include the handicapped children form the hospital at Siret on day camps.

Again we had a very successful camp.

We were offered a piece of land next to the piece we have leased, and bought it for the charity.

During the camp we go to look at the Medical Centre in Zamostea to see if we can help. We find it looks after 1200 families from the surrounding villages and has virtually nothing, no running water and very little in the way of equipment. So we decide to refurbish it.

1995 October

I see the Romanian Scout President and explain what we have done so far. The outcome of the meeting is we are asked if we will organise a similar camp with the involvement of their Leader Trainers next year, for Scouters from the whole of Romania
